Police says heroin was sold in a McDonald's Happy Meal at a Pittsburgh-area store.

A McDonald’s worker is accused of putting a little extra something in Happy Meals sold at a Pittsburgh drive-through: heroin.

Police said they arrested the 26-year-old woman Wednesday after buying the drugs at a McDonald’s in the East Liberty neighborhood, NBC station WPXI of Pittsburgh reported.

Here’s how the operation worked, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office told WPXI:

A customer who wanted to buy heroin would go to the drive-through speaker and say, “I’d like to order a toy.”The customer would then stop at the first window, pay and get a Happy Meal box containing heroin in small bags.The customer would leave without stopping at the second window.

Detectives said they did just that, and arrested Shania Dennis of East Pittsburgh. The DA’s office said detectives got 10 bags of heroin in the Happy Meal box and found Dennis with 50 more.

WPXI said it had a chance to ask Dennis if she was selling the heroin. Her response? “No, I was not.”

The station reported that it was unclear whether this case is related to the arrest earlier this month of another McDonald’s worker accused of selling heroin in a restaurant parking lot in Murrysville, Pa.

Kentucky police in standoff with military veteran barricaded in home

Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, reported NBC affiliate WLWT.Vaughan surrendered after exchanging gunfire with police, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. A bullet struck his arm, and he was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment, the newspaper said.Once released, he could face several charges, including attempted murder of a police officer, Covington Police Chief Spike Jones told The Enquirer.Police first responded to the home at 4 p.m. Saturday on a distress call.They learned the man had three children with him: a 5-year-old son, 11-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son with autism, The Enquirer said.On Sunday morning, police were successfully able to negotiate the release of the man's three young children from the home.The children were recovered unharmed just before 8:30 a.m. and put inside an armored vehicle.Jones declined to say how many other people might also have been inside the home.He told reporters early Sunday that authorities had been monitoring the man’s Facebook page, which described his fragile state and the arrival of a SWAT team. The page has since been taken down, and police wouldn’t immediately verify his identity.“We understand that this gentleman is a decorated combat veteran of our United States military service and we want to afford him the benefits of what he’s earned and make sure ... we get him the assistance he needs,” Jones said.He added that police had contacted the Department of Veterans Affairs.The situation escalated around 8 p.m. Saturday, when the disturbed vet first shot at cops from an elevated position, police said.More gunfire was heard from inside the home at around 4:15 a.m. Sunday.As the standoff stretched into its 20th hour by noon Sunday, residents of the Latonia neighborhood were ordered to stay inside their homes and away from windows.

Crash after police pursuit leaves 4 dead in Southern California

The caller gave a good description of the suspects and the Sheriff’s Dept. was able to locate the car, resulting in a pursuit that started on Indigo Boulevard in Compton.See original report at NBCLosAngeles.comAfter a five-minute pursuit, the suspects’ vehicle ran a red light and struck an oncoming vehicle at the intersection of South Wilmington Avenue and West Greenleaf Boulevard. Man left baby in car, came into strip club for hours, police say

A Florida man was arrested after it left a child in a car closed in Fort Myers parking strip club, police said.Andrew Sosa, 21, was arrested on a charge of child neglect after he left the girl 4 months inside a Kia Optima spectators Strip, according to NBC 2 club.See the original report in NBCMiami.comFort Myers police said that an officer was marked down once the baby was discovered in a seat in the rear of the vehicle after 22:30 on Friday. He is expected that it will be fine.Detectives later discovered that the girl had remains inside the car for three hours while Sosa was inside the club, police said.Sosa, of Cape Coral, appeared in court on Saturday, where his bail was set at $100,000. Newly married couple found murder victim in Craigslist, says police

Barbour is taken to the office of a district judge on Tuesday.SUNBURY, Pennsylvania - a couple married for only three weeks attracted a man to death with an ad on Craigslist because they wanted to kill someone together, police said.Elytte Barbour told officers before his arrest, on Friday night that he and his wife, Miranda, had planned to kill before, but his plans never worked until last month when Troy LaFerrara responded to an on-line publication that promised company in Exchange for money, authorities said.Elytte Barbour told investigators "they committed the murder because they just wanted to kill someone together", police said in the affidavit.Elytte Barbour, 22 and Miranda Barbour, 18, face charges of criminal homicide in the death of LaFerrara. His body was found November 12 in an alley in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, a small town about 100 miles northwest of Philadelphia. NEW YORK--owner of a convenience store in Long Island and his son, accused of cheating a client who speaks English is limited by a $1 million winning lottery ticket, they were accused of theft Saturday.The 34-year-old Hispanic man bought $10 game "Unwrap the cash" scratching at the peninsula Deli & store in Hempstead, New York, on Thursday, and after playing the game, believed to be a winner, of the Nassau County Police said.He handed the card to store employee Karim Jaghab, 26 years old, the son of the owner of the deli Nabil Jaghab, 57, police said.The Secretary confirmed victory by analyzing the card and receive a message from the lottery for New York State, he said, "file claim: Jackpot Winner - please return ticket for the client together with A claim receipt," police said.On the other hand, Jaghab said that the victim won $1,000 and paid in cash."The victim then left the store with their believed profits."The winning ticket was actually a 'Prize' for $1,000,000, police said in a statement.The man, who said "don't speak English very well" of the police, became suspicious and returned to the store on Friday to question the younger Jaghab.The employee said, "OK, I'll pay $10,000 while you do not involve the police," the police statement said.Jaghab elder confirmed what he said his son, telling the client, "which just won $10,000," police said.More and more doubts about the claims of the Jaghabs, the victim called police.Detectives determined the father and the son tried deceive victim and claim the profits for themselves. Any prize worth $600 or more must be redeemed at a New York State Lottery Office and can not be paid at the place of purchase.The father and the son were accused on charges of theft on a large scale on Saturday. The child was discovered around 9:30 a.m. local time in frigid temperatures, Capt. Ronnie Whitaker told NBC News.Dorian Lee Harper, the boy's foster parent, emerged and asked the deputy why he was there, Whitaker said. The deputy asked the 57-year-old man for identification. Another child opened the door, releasing several dogs that chased the deputy back to his cruiser, Whitaker said.Advertise | AdChoicesBy the time back-up units arrived and the dogs were secured, the man had removed the 11-year-old boy from the porch, but left the dead chicken on a nearby barrel, Whitaker said.Deputies searched the house and found five children, ages 14, 13, 11, 9 and 8. The children were taken from the home and the man was placed under arrest. Union County Sheriff's OfficeDorian Lee Harper, left, and Wanda Sue Larson are charged with child abuse.A second foster parent, Wanda Sue Larson, 57, was not home at the time of the incident, but was arrested when she arrived later at the sheriff's office. Both are charged with intentional child abuse, inflicting serious injury, false imprisonment and cruelty to animals, according to a police report.Larson is a supervisor with the Union County Department of Social Services, and Harper is an emergency room nurse.Larson is accused of being complicit in mistreatment of the children. She also was charged with willful failure to discharge her duty as a public official.Carolina's Healthcare System confirmed Saturday that Harper has been placed on administrative leave, NBC station WCNC of Charlotte reported.Whitaker said that because of the investigation he could not disclose whether Harper could explain why the boy was handcuffed to the porch and a dead chicken was hanging on his neck.Harper and Larson adopted four of the children. The pair had been fostering the fifth, the child handcuffed to the porch, WCNC reported.Sheriff Eddie Cathey called the case "shocking."“I can assure you that we have only just begun our investigation into what has happened, and we will pursue it to its fullest extent,” he told WCNC.Harper and Larson were being held in the Union County Jail. Harper's bail was set to $500,000, and Larson’s was set at $525,000.
