Teenager dies aboard Delta Flight shortly after take off from Seattle
STANCE'KHQDelta Airlines flight 128 sits on the track at Spokane international airport then deviates shortly after takeoff due to a medical emergency on board.By Simon Moya-Smith, writer, NBC NewsA flight of Delta Airlines from Seattle to Atlanta was diverted to Spokane in Washington State international airport shortly after takeoff on Saturday due to a medical emergency that left a 16-year-old male passenger died, according to official sources.Spokane International officials stated that the teenager "sadly died" shortly after 128 Delta flight took off, bound for Atlanta. Pilots diverted to Spokane, the closest airport, upon learning of the emergency.Immediately, the cause of death is unknown. Local authorities and a coroner were summoned to the airport, registered STANCE'KHQ NBC affiliate.The teenager was not immediately identified, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted Assistant Spokane Brian Schaeffer fire chief saying that he was originally from the metropolitan area of Atlanta and came with an undetermined number of members of the family to visit relatives in Georgia for Christmas. His father is military and is stationed in Washington, Schaeffer told the newspaper.Joe Ryan, a passenger on board the aircraft, quoted the newspaper as saying that the emergency occurred shortly after take-off."The plane never too high," he said. "The pilot all suddenly on the intercom and said there was a passenger urgently needs (health care)."Ryan said that the teenager and what he believed to be members of the family of the teenager were seated somewhere in the plane behind him. The teenager was taken to the back of the plane where flight attendants and possibly others tried measures to save lives, said Ryan.258 Other passengers were taken off the plane and have addressed others, continuing to its destination, the officials said.Delta representatives did not release the name of the teenager and said if attempts to revive the child continued after the plane landed.
